Record High Commercial Building Starts In January February 22, 2007

Reed Construction Data announced today that the value of U.S. construction starts, excluding residential projects, totaled $26.5 billion in January 2007, 28.7% more than in January 2006. Starts increased 3.8% from December 2006 on top of an 18.2% monthly increase in the previous month. Private commercial starts reached a record-high $10.4 billion in the latest month. Starts of non-building projects also increased from December to January (3.5%) and from last January (10.5%). Institutional building starts increased slightly from last January (4.4%), but fell from December (-12.8%).
